Many types of communication proved vital in the Christiana Resistance, from secret messages to fiery propaganda in newspapers. But at the center of this story was an organized group of freedom fighters who communicated through the sound of a horn. Yet this story is not over. We need to do a better job of communicating our values by properly honoring the 1851 resistance and not letting their battle cry go unheard.

None of these valuable efforts are enough, however. The site of a major freedom battle is still on private property. The government should buy the land and make the site a national monument. That is the best way to communicate our true values by ensuring their battle cry is finally heard again.
